The Rotary Year for The Rotary Club of Chester-le-Street began on 1st July 2017.

On Friday 31st June 2017 - we inducted our new Club President: Rotarian Kevin Jobson for the year 2017 - 2018.
President Kevin's chosen charity for the forthcoming Rotary year is:
  • SSAFA (Soldiers, Sailors, Air Force Association), Tyne & Wear Branch.  SSAFA works to ensure that the needs of the Armed Forces, veterans and their families are met in an appropriate and timely way.  SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, exists to relieve need, suffering and distress amongst the Armed Forces, Veterans and their Families in order to support their independence and dignity.
Throughout the year The Rotary Club of Chester-le-Street will be organising events to raise funds for the President's chosen charity, and other Rotary projects in support of our local, national and international communities.  We also promote & encourage good fellowship among our members, their families and friends throughout the Rotary year with ongoing charitable projects and social engagements, as follows:-
THE ROTARY YEAR 2017 - 2018
  • Friday 30th June 2017 - Hand-over Day - Rotarian Kevin Jobson takes over as President of the Rotary Club of Chester-le-Street, from President Brian Straughan, for the ensuing year 2017 - 2018.
  • Sunday 9th July 2017, the Rotary Club of Birtley are holding a Fundraising Garden Party at the home of Margaret Smith, President of the Rotary Club of Birtley. She extends an invitation to any members of Chester-le-Street Rotary Club who would like to attend.  Further details from Birtley RC President, Margaret Smith, email:
  • Monday 7th - Friday 11th August 2017 - the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) - will be held at the Kingsway Outdoor Education Centre, Middleton-in-Teesdale. Tom Ludlow, a former winner of the Rotary Club's'Frank Baddilley Award' is taking part representing himself and the Rotary Club of Chester-le-Street.
  • Friday 3rd November 2017 - Official visit by Immediate-Past District Governor, Peter Chandler, to present the Rotary Club with Rotary District 1030's 'Ron Reid Membership Award'. We also celebrated our annual 'Last Rose of Summer'  Club competition, where members enter the best rose from their garens, which was won by Past-President Linda Watson PHF.   • Monday 6th November 2017 - an ' Away ' visit has been arranged to the City of Lincoln for members, wives and friends of the Club by Past-President John Tootill.  If you require further details, please contact John Totill, email: or tele: 0772 5558939.   • Saturday 11th November 2017 - Armistice Day.
  • Sunday 12th November 2017 - Remembrance Sunday - Past-President Alan Hedley will be laying a wreath on behalf of our Rotary Club at the War Memorial, Market Place, Chester-le-Street.  As many Club members as possible are requested to attend please.
  • Saturday 18th November 2017 - ABF the Soldiers’ Charity (North East) and SSAFA Tyne and Wear Branch will be holding an ‘Arras Dinner 2017', from 7.00 pm until 11.30 pm, at Northumbrian Universities Officers’ Training Corps, St Cuthbert’s Keep, Holland Drive, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE2 4LD. In aid of the two charities the tickets are priced at £27.50 per person, inclusive of champagne reception, wine and entertainment. Dress code: Black tie/Mess Kit with Miniatures or Lounge suit.   • Monday 20th November 2017 - Rotary District Counci Meeting - in the Northumbria Suite of the Federation Brewery, Gateshead.
  • Friday 24th November 2-17 - Special General Meeting of the Rotary Club of Chester-le-Street. All Club members are requested to attend please.
  • Saturday 25th November 2017 - an 'Away Evening' - at Pelaw Dog Track, near Chester-le-Street, for Club members, their wives and friends, organised by Past-President Jim Lawrence PHF. Further details can be obtained from Jim Lawrence, email: or tele: (0191) 389 0828.
  • Friday 15th December 2017 - 'Christmas Message Luncheon' - was delivered by the Rev. David Tully, Rector, St Mary & St Cuthbert's Church, Chester-le-Street. and this year was held in the Lounge of the Cricket Club, Ropery Lane, Chester-le-Street, Co Durham DH3 3PF, at 12 Noon for 12.30pm.   • Saturday 13th January 2018 - Rotary District 1030 Music Competition - was held in Alnwick under the auspices of the Rotary Club of Alnwick and was well supported. The winner of the French Horn section was Christopher Winkless-Clarke, a young musician sponsored by the Rotary Club of Chester-le-Street. Well done Christopher!  A look forward: the Regional Final, which Christopher has qualified to enter, takes place at the "Royal Conservatoire of Scotland", Renfrew Street, Glasgow, on Sunday 22nd April, from where the winners attend the National Final, at the James Watt Theatre, Heriot Watt University, Riccarton, Edinburgh on 19th May 2018.
  • Friday 26th January 2018 - Club Council Meeting at 10.00 am at our usual venue, 'The Whitehills', and all Club Council members are requested to attend. Our regular luncheon meeting will follow at 12.00 for 12.15 pm, which will be a Business meeting.
  • Monday 29th January 2018 - attend with wives, the Rotary Club of Stanley's meeting at 7.00 pm for a meal & Guest Speaker at the Causey Arch Inn, near Stanley.

  • Thursday 15th February 2018 - District 1030 Quiz Competition - at 6.45 pm at Hallgarth, The Manor Hotel, Pittington, Co Durham.
  • Saturday 24th February 2018 - Collection In Aid Of SSAFA, Tyne & Wear Branch, will be held by members of the Rotary Club of Chester-le-Street, aided by their wives, at Dobbies Garden Centre, Durham Road, Chester-le-Street.
  • Friday 2nd March 2018 - Weekly Meeting this Friday was cancelled due to very inclement weather. All members were informed by email or telephone.
  • Friday 9th March 2018 - is our next Weekly Lunchtime Meeting.
  • Friday 23rd March 2018 - Club Council Meeting at 10.00 am at our usual venue, 'The Whitehills', and all Club Council members are requested to attend. Our regular luncheon meeting will follow at 12.00 for 12.15 pm, which will at which we will present or anual 'Rose Trophy', certificate & cheque to the Chester-le-Street Student who has shown the best academic achievement.   • Saturday 2nd June 2018 - Charity Ball In Aid of 'Youth Connection' - includes Canapes and a Two Course Meal, also Live Entertainment, Raffle and Disco. The Ball, which is Formal (black tie.   • Saturday 3rd November 2018 - 'War's End' Concert - presented by the Rotary Club of Chester-le-Street in St Mary's & St Cuthbert's Parish Church, Chester-le-Street, to celebrate the end of WW1 and remember those who gave their lives in that war.
