BOOK LAUNCH - HELP FOR HEROES & ARMY BENEVOLENT FUND
Book Launch 'Extravaganza':

On Saturday, 27th March 2010, at an 'Extravaganza' Evening, including Dinner & a Concert, Rotarian David Hughes and The Rotary Club of Cheser-le-Street, launched David's latest book 'My Son The Enemy' , a novel, a work of fiction based on his Army experiences at the end of WW2.

All profit from the 'Extravaganza' and the world-wide book sales will go jointly to support the charities 'Help for Heroes' and the 'Army Benevolent Fund'.

Update: From book sales £13,000.00 was raised. At a Presentation Luncheon on Friday, 25th June 2010, attended by a number of Rotarians, wives and friends, cheques for the sum of £6.500 each was presented by Sir Paul Nicholson, Lord Lieutenant for County Durham, to Representatives of 'Help for Heroes' and the 'Army Benevolent Fund' respectively. A very good result and many thanks to everyone who has helped to make this charitable project a success by purchasing a copy of the book 'My Son The Enemy'.

On Friday, 10th February 2012, the Rotary Club of Chester-le-Street made a final donation of £6,000+ to the County Organiser, Help for Heroes.

Tools for Self-Reliance On Friday 14th July 2012 - The Rotary Club of Chester-le-Street's International Committee are holding a Social Evening in the Parish Centre, Chester-le-Street, Co Durham, to raise funds for the charity, 'Tools for Self-Reliance'. Army Benevolent Fund (NE) We support the events being held by the Army Benvolent Fund (Notherteast) at the Sage Theatre, Gateshead, and the Gala Theatre, Durham.
Great North Air Ambulance In September 2012 - Funds raised during Rotary year 2011-2012. 
International Emergencies In October 2012 - a social evening, talk & slide show was held & to raise funds for Rotary International Emergencies.
The Jubilee Tree Project On Friday 16th November 2012, in celebration of HM Queen's Jubilee Year, members of the Rotary Club of Chester-le-Street. donated a Royal Oak Tree to the townspeople of Chester-le-Street. Click here to see photographs.
'Cinderella' The Pantomime On Wed/Sat 21 - 24th November 2012 - 'Youth Connection', an amateur theatre company in Chester-le-Street, is performing 'Cinderella'. 
Christman Luncheon On Thursday 6th December 2012 - a Christmas Luncheon for elderly residents of Chester-le-Street, was held in the Parish Centre.
Annual Sponsored Walk Each year we hold an Annual Sponsored Walk attended by members, their wives, family & friends.  The sponsorship monies raised each year goes to support the Club President's chosen charities.
Music At The Methold On Saturday 22nd June 2013, the Rotary Club of Chester-le-Street, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Whickham, held an open air musical evening, 'Music At The Methold', in the grounds of Methold Houses, Beamish, Co Durham.  Entertainment was provided by the New Generation Brass Band, local theatre & drama group, 'Youth Connection' and the NASUWT Concert Band.  The evening was well attended by members of the public, helping to raise monies for charitable projects in the amount £1320; which was shared equally between both Rotary Clubs.
Elliott Davidson Music Award
Friday 22nd June 2014 - President-elect Jim Lawrence PHF presented the 'Elliott Davidson Music Award' to this Year's Winner:  Elizabeth Blanchard, a member of the NASUWT Concert Band, Chester-le-Street.  This is an annual event.
Cystic Fibrosis Friday 22d June 2014 - CYSTIC FIBROSIS SOCIETY- a cheque for £500 in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, raised by President-elect Jim Lawrence, was presented to a representative of the charity, Mrs Patricia Kilpatrick.
The Parkinson Society UK The President's chosen charity for the Rotary Year 2014 - 2015.
The Rose Trophy The Rotary Club of Chester-le-Street's Rose Trophy is awarded annually to the Chester-le-Street Student who attains the highest academic achievement of the year. The Award, organised by Rotarian Colin Crozier & Rotarian John Stewart, attracts the Rose Trophy, a certificate and a cash prize to the Awardee; who holds the Rose Trophy for one year.
James Etherington Music Awards The Annual James Etherington Music Awards, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Chester-le-Street, is held each year in the Methodist Church, Chester-le-Street, Co Durham.  Promising young musicians living in the DH (Durham County postal areas), who wish to further their training in singing or the playing of musical instruments, are invited to apply for the above-named award.  The Award attracts a trophy and cash prizes for the winner and two runners-up.  The Awards are organised by Past-President Bob Watson BEM PHF. The Frank Baddilley Awards The Annual Frank Baddilley Awards are presented each year, when the Rotary Club of Chester-le-Street, recoqnises the achievements and work by Students from Chester-le-Street Schools, within the local community. The Award, is organised by Rotarian John Stewart and attracts a certificate and cash prizes to the Awardees. See the website 'Photograph Gallery'.
SOS Sheikh School Project, Somaliland The on-going Project, during 2014-2015, in which £5,800 has been raised by members of the Rotary Club of Chester-le-Street, to provide computer equipment to the SOS Sheikh School in Somaliland.  The Project is in memeory of two Chester-le-Street Teachers, Richard and Enid Eyeington, 62 and 61, who were shot through the window of their flat in the school compound in Sheikh, some 550 miles north of the Somalian capital, Mogadishu, on Monday night, 20th October 2003 by an Islamist terrorist.
The Rotary Club of Chester-le-Street is also sponsoring the sale of Christmas cards, produced from an original watrercolour by the well known local Painter & Fundraiser, Rotarian David Hughes, with all artwork having been done by, and the cards prouced by Rotarian Brian Corker. The Christmas cards cost £1 each.  All proceeds go to our charity project SOS Sheikh School, Somaliland.
The Project, inspired Past-President Brian Corker PHF, is raising funds to replace and upgrade the Sheikh School's very old computers to modern standards to allow the education of homeless and orphaned children.
