ROTARIAN BOB WATSON PHF AWARDED THE BRITISH EMPIRE MEDAL

On Thursday 28th February 2013, Rotarian Robert Watson PHF (Paul Harris Fellow), of the Rotary Club of Chester-le-Street, was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) by Sir Paul Nicholson, Lord Lieutenant of County Durham, at a ceremony at Durham County Cricket Ground, Chester-le-Street - the citation in the New Years Honours List 2013 reads that Bob's honour was awarded for services to the community in Chester- Le-Street, Durham.

Rotarian Bob Watson PHF was awarded the British Empire Medal for his many years of service to Education, Music and Charity in the Chester-le-Street community.

A former Head Teacher and skilled Musician Bob has taught music and educated generations of young people in the Chester-le-Street area.  For many years Bob, the leading Organist at the Methodist Church, Chester-le-Street, has also been a Trustee of the James Etherington Music Trust, a very successful annual event, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Chester-le-Street, for promising young Musicians and Singers who wish to further their musical training. 

Bob Watson, a Past President of he Rotary Club of Chester-le-Street, is the holder of the Paul Harris Fellowship, the highest award in Rotary.

A well earned honour - congratulations Bob on your BEM.
